The national deputy of Argentina, Martín Berhongaray, submitted a request for a report for the Executive Power to detail the competent actions in energy, environmental, financial and tax matters regarding the «cryptocurrency phenomenon» and its incidence.
The deputy of UCR La Pampa asked the Ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation, Environment and Sustainable Development, Security and Economy of Argentina to take conducive measures to avoid unfavorable aspects linked to cryptocurrencies.
«The procedures for the creation of cryptocurrencies require high-power technology that generates significant electrical energy consumption. Although the best known is Bitcoin, there are others such as Ethereum, Dogecoin, Polkadot, Litecoin, among others, which allow inferring that the levels of electric energy consumption destined to the production of the set of them can rise to very significant amounts.»
The national deputy of UCR La Pampa questioned whether the government knows the importance of the consequent consumption of energy and accused that facilities are provided to acquire equipment to develop mining and recalled that there is widespread concern about the carbon emissions associated with this activity.
